Frequently Asked Questions

 About Bockety Box

What is Bockety Box?
Our boxes are filled with seasonal veg sourced directly from Irish farmers, including the bockety, perfectly imperfect fruit and vegetables that fall outside the main retailers’ strict shape and-size rules.
Fresh, supporting local, and helping fight food waste..

Why is the produce “bockety”?
Because it’s too big, too small, surplus, or simply doesn’t meet retailers beauty standards but still perfectly fresh and delicious.

Why doesn’t my produce look bockety?
Some veg comes with curves, some looks picture-perfect ,that’s the beauty of working with Irish growers. We include what’s in season, what’s surplus, and the produce that doesn’t always make the supermarket cut because of its shape or size, keeping your box full of fresh variety.

How do you support Irish farmers?
We support Irish farmers by buying straight from the farm. Whether the produce is bockety, oversized, undersized, surplus from a bumper harvest, or simply fresh seasonal veg they need a home for we step in and pay them a fair price.

Is All Your Produce Irish or Also Imported?

We always prioritise Irish produce and the farmers we work with directly. That’s the heart of Bockety Box. But every now and then, we get a call about perfectly good imported fruit or veg that’s been rejected because it doesn’t meet the strict specs for shape or size. Instead of letting that food end up as waste, we step in to rescue it and give it a new home.

And if you’d prefer to stay strictly local, we also offer an Irish-only box.

Impact

How does Bockety Box help fight food waste?
Bockety Box helps to fight food waste by giving perfectly imperfect fruit and veg a home.
We collect produce that’s too big, too small, or outside the strict specs of major retailers, along with seasonal surplus straight from Irish farmers. It means growers have another outlet, and perfectly good food goes to your table.

What happens if you have surplus even after boxes are packed?
If we have excess fruit and vegetables, we donate them to local charities and food banks.

Is your produce organic?
Our mission is to rescue good food, whether it’s organic or not. Sometimes the fruit and veg we save happens to be organic, but not always. We don’t offer a fully organic box just yet, but you may spot the odd organic carrot or apple in your delivery.

How much food waste do you save?
We’ll be sharing regular updates on the kilos of fruit & veg rescued by you. Join our mission and follow the journey.

Packaging

Is your packaging sustainable?
Yes our boxes are recyclable and reusable. We avoid plastic packaging wherever possible. Some items, like cucumbers or berries, may arrive in plastic for their own protection (to keep them fresh or prevent bruising in transport). This wrapping comes from the original supplier before we received the product. None of it is added by us.

Choosing Your Box Contents

Do I get to choose what’s in my box?
Not exactly, the mix depends on what’s been rescued & what's available  (that’s half the fun!). But don’t worry, you can let us know in your subscription if there’s something you don’t usually eat or if you’re allergic, like onions. Plus, each week you can swap one item from your box for an extra portion of something you already love inside.

Subscriptions

Of course skip, pause or cancel anytime. Be sure to do this before out cut off time All orders or changes must be made at least 5 days before your delivery day, by 10 Am. So this would  be Sunday morning 10am, as we deliver on a Friday.
